A Totem Pole in Salford?!
We couldn't quite believe it either! 40 years ago, pretty much to the day, a Totem Pole arrived in the shipyards of Salford. A gift from the first nation Americans in Canada to celebrate the shipping lanes between our countries, the pole was erected on Salford Quays until around 3 years ago when it was cut down by the council due to structural problems. Now the pole is to be renovated by the great nephew of the original carver. Kevin Cranmer arrived at the airport today to see the pole for the first time and we were there with our cameras to capture the event.
